401k matching

    Friend of mine works at a paper that provides a 401k match for non-union workers but no match for those in the union. Its position is, "Win that benefit at the bargaining table" but then with each new contract, it never gives in on that issue. He says it is management's way to discourage the non-union people from organizing, by showing them what they'd lose.

    Scripps stopped matching last year and is not yet doing so again. Sent out an email this week saying they wouldn't be matching or ending the pay freeze until ad revenue stablilized.
    In other words, it's gonna be a while.
