Did you miss the 10, 20, 25, 30 and 35 year anniversaries of this event?

With all due respect to my esteemed sj.com members, but I swear some of you are like Rainman. We go over the same things year after year.

And every time you watch it you remember why sports fans of my generation always remember 2/22/80. The greatest upset in sports history. Some things are worth revisiting every single year.

 

What percentage of "fans" think this won gold and don't realize there was another game.

 

It's all been downhill since Larry Bird's back went out.

 

My favourite Herb Brooks quote:

"You guys are playing worse and worse every day, and right now you're playing like it's next Tuesday."

 

I don't know how many times I've watched that, but watching it just now gave me goosebumps again. There just aren't many clips that can keep doing that after hundreds of times.

I still remember it all. I had driven 50-some miles to a college town (one that I would be attending in the fall) to visit a high school flame. Heard the result in the dorm hallway and had to go find a good TV to watch the telecast that was still to come.

 

Except for the Olympics, which are routinely broadcast on tape-delay.

CBC carried the US-USSR game live so those of us with access to Canadian channels saw it in real time.

 

How did your old high school flame feel about you traveling 50-some miles to watch a hockey game instead of seeing her?
