    Dec 12, 2006 (Newsday - McClatchy-Tribune Business News via COMTEX) --
Newsday journalists have sent a letter to parent Tribune Co., calling for an end to staff reductions and more resources devoted to covering news on Long Island and abroad.

The letter, signed by 112 employees of the 411 who work in the editorial department, criticized Tribune for cutting newsroom staff by about one third since buying Newsday in 2000. It also said the ability to provide readers with a comprehensive news report and investigative stories had been undermined by cuts in the workforce and newsprint.

"Tribune has damaged Newsday as an instrument of public information and accountability and, for that matter, as a business," said the letter, which was mailed yesterday to Tribune chief executive Dennis FitzSimons.

    The balls on these motherfuckers.

The first iceberg that hit the Tribune's ship and sent it into its current death spiral was the corrupt asswipes on Long Island and the circulation scandal.

    Shut the fuck up.

Not sure if your anger is directed at the right party here, Columbo.

The journalists didn't have anything to do with the circ scandal. That was all Raymond Jansen. Oh that's right, he had nothing to do with it. He just got the fuck out of dodge as the shit hit the fan.

Newsday is a shell of its former self and lightly regarded in the area, even though it is the only option. The remaining writers should be hammering corporate.

It wasn't the newsroom people who inflated the circulation numbers at Newsday. Nor was it the reporters and editors in Dallas who played with the numbers there OR invented that fucking Cue Cat.

But it's the journalists who'll be eating shitburgers to pay for those shenanigans.

I don't have a problem with writers and editors realizing they're putting out a shitty product every day and appealing to the people who can change it to do something. It's professional pride -- and probably the fact that they're drastically overworked trying to put out the product they do. It won't make a difference -- the corporates probably realize its a shitty product too and just don't care. But I applaud them for trying

    Wow, what a tortured analogy.
