Twenty-five years ago, I was in fourth grade.

    Those were the days...

USA TODAY started publication 25 years ago... hmmm, who are you?

Just kidding. Congratulations. That's a milestone in this business. :)

I just realized... some of the computers at one stop have been there longer than you've been at your paper.

    That is kinda sad.

25 years ago I was already middle-aged. Screw you!!!

  10. Congratulations. I just past 20 years at my shop. I agree with EStreet -- if you like where you are and what you're doing, why leave?

(Unless, of course, your employers invite you to do so.)

Let's have a showing of hands: How many will reach the 25-year mark at the papers where they're currently working? Yes or no, with years logged already and why/why not would be nice.

  12. I would like to. I'd say the odds are 50/50, between what the company decides and what I decide.

When I first started out, there were a lot of guys in my department who had been there a long time. Almost without exception, however, they weren't mailing it in. They were hard workers and good journalists. They also were well known and, for the most part, respected in the community.

I always thought it would be nice to be in that position.
