    So Tony and Jack basically had an off-again, on-again relationship? He died because he was in captivity? I may have to go get Seasons 1-5.

    Tony was "killed" in the series of hits put together on CTU people by Jack's brother as part of the same sweep that killed President Palmer, if memory serves me right.

    His wife died due to a car bomb in the season 5 opener, and Tony was severely injured in the blast. He later "died" in CTU's infirmary after being stabbed with a hypodermic needle filled with a torture drug.
