Wandy Rodriqguez comes quickly to mind....
back in the 1960s, Rollie Sheldon lied about his age to the Yankees...said he was about 20 when he was really 24/25.....
Hall of Famer Rube Marquard lied about his age in the early 1900s ...everyone thought he was a 19-year-old wunderkid and he was about 23.

Also, I vaguely remember a track star at Harvard in the early 1990s who really was a career criminal who somehow conned his way into the school.

Oh, I remember that miler or cross country runner you are talking about. The details are bit sketchy in my mind, but he lied his way into a bunch of situations. I think he may have lied his way into Stanford and Harvard and got caught at each. But not before he was enrolled and competing and had gotten away with it a bit. Now I have to find those stories and refresh myself on the details. I remember the guy ended up a grifter and was serving in jail (I believe in Utah) on a bunch of robbery charges, if I am not mistaken.

  3. If and when you find out can you share?

I've been looking in the Si vault this morning, but nothing is turning up. I remember his picture from SI...he had a semi-mullet and a pornstache and thinking "they believed this guy was with Harvard."

Yeah, I see in the 7th graf of the USAT story the attribution.
This guy should be sent to jail, minimum security or whatever, but sent to jail.
He's old enough to know what he did is against the law and altogether wrong.
Just think, 16-year-olds wanted to win those games, but had to settle for close losses to a 22-year-old.

  6. Damn Jail?
    Seriously?

    Jail.
    Or what do YOU think?
He prolly doesn't have any money to pay a huge fine.
We gotta set some examples. Minimum security jail and/or certainly deportation proceedings should be thrown his way.
He made some bad choices and broke the law.

At the very least, he should retroactively be busted down to second team All-Area. Or maybe the HM if you're really want to make a statement.

  9. Oh, he made some bad choices, but seriously who was hurt by this? Really, physically hurt?
There is no doubt what he did was wrong, and there are going to be some hurt feelings, but he didn't steal millions of dollars. He didn't physically assault anyone (statutory rape excluded) .. This is penny ante stuff.
    Jails are overcrowed already.
If this guy's biggest crime is impersonating a 15/16 teenager, I hope he gets probation.
Really, I just can't see this as some large crime deserving of jail time. Now if this had been Texas Football ...

I read the story, but didn't see this: Did he actually start? Was he a star player? What were his numbers?

I admit, I read it quickly and maybe I missed it.

Can you deport a naturalized citizen?
