Yeah, but at what point do they acknowledge that the "average" has changed?

16 above-averages out of 20 --- with some seasons 2.5 times more than average --- isn't how "average" is supposed to work.

When there is a sufficient data set that appreciably alters the mean. I thought Soviets were good at math.

I’m trying to reason with hurricane season, but this is too frakkin’ early.

Something else I want to know: What’s their batting average on predictions? How does the eventual number of storms compare to the prediction?

You deserve an SJ pay raise for that one.

The one in the Atlantic needs to take itself north.

I'll definitely take that up with the moderators during my annual review. My likes-to-posts ratio has taken a major hit since the Orange Cheeto left office. I post in the racing threads, but like Yogi Berra said, nobody goes there any more. :)

I’m getting rain from that Gulf disturbance, but nobody said anything about tropical development until now.

We've got a serious mid-summer like high pressure heat dome sitting right over the southeast. We may not see rain until June while Texas and Louisiana are swimming in water.

But global warming is just one of those political things ...

I used to go to WWL for their hurricane coverage whenever a big one formed in the Gulf, but they’ve slipped to the point where they just fill air time by talking on the phone with every parish president in Southern Louisiana. The hosts know them by name.
