Somehow we missed the 40th anniversary of Disco Demolition Night. The postgame festivities start around the 2 hour, 29 minute mark.

At the 45 minute mark, Whitaker is hitting and Carey and the color guy start cutting up about hooking up with grandmothers.

Damn, I miss some things about baseball in the 70s/80s.

The color guy is Jimmy Piersall. Two minutes before that, he went off on a bizarre tangent/rant about Jim Sundberg during a delay in the action. The Rangers had played the White Sox the series before the Tigers, and Sundberg apparently ripped the White Sox players in the paper. Piersall fired back by saying Sundberg sucked and wrapped it up with, "Maybe it was his hemorrhoids that caused that."
Nowadays Piersall would be issuing an apology by the end of the night and maybe still getting fired for that rant.

In 1973 I lived in Oakland. When the A's won the World Series, they had a parade in which the players were in antique cars. We went up to the one with Joe Rudi to yell, "Hey Joe." Rudi opens door, falls out. A Cape Cod fog bank of dope smoke hit us as we rushed to see if Rudi was hurt, which he wasn't.

Rays ensure there is nothing happening in Baltimore through 7.

Broken up in the ninth. Would have been the first combined perfect game in MLB history.

After three innings in Coors, everyone in the Giants lineup save the pitcher and Sandoval has a hit. Five of them have two hits. It's 12-0.

Freaking Giants suddenly decided to pull their heads out of their asses on the cusp of the team getting broken up. If they did this back in April/May they might actually be in contention for a Wild Card. Instead they'll be a flash in the pan until Bumgarner and Smith get traded.

So, Merrifield isn't getting traded then

July 16,1941 56th consecutive game with a hit by Joe DiMaggio.
That’s the record. 56 consecutive scheduled games in 1 season. He played in each one. No days off. Got a hit every day. On the day he didn’t get a hit and ended the hit streak, he walked. 74 consecutive game on base streak.

Correction, he did have a day off, but he didn’t take a game off.

I have always believed all records will be broken. When I was a kid, Ruth's 714 and Gehrig's 2039 and Cobb's 96 stolen bases in a season were all untouchable and treated as such and they're all gone now. Except DiMaggio's 56. When Rose couldn't do it, I think it's safe until baseball changes again. Even putting the ball in play that much is now downplayed by "analytics." Quotes because baseball analytics are not real analytics.
