So, the only way to save baseball in Tampa-St. Pete is spend hundreds of millions on a new stadium, then move away from Tampa-St. Pete for half the season? The only way for baseball to return to Montreal is spend hundreds of millions to build a new stadium, then have a team for half a year?

Did those same people set our Vietnam policy too?

Of course what would happen is, after about two years of still-shitty attendance in TSP, they'd move to Montreal full-time. And the TSP taxpayers would be on the hook for the next 40 years for a huge white elephant, like Marlins Park.

The Carolina Cougars and Virginia Squires proved this would work back in the old ABA days, didn't they? Uh, no.

It didn't work for the Brooklyn Dodgers, either, when they played abut 10 games a year in Jersey City.

It didn't work for the Montreal Expos, when they played games in Puerto Rico.

Just start calling them the Montreal Rays now

Or, as one Facebook commenter suggested, the Ex-Rays.

The Warriors were quite nomadic in their early days in San Francisco, even playing games in San Diego and Salt Lake City before settling in Oakland.

O’Malley went to Jersey City with the Dodgers in an effort to get a new stadium in Brooklyn where the Barclays Center is now. He wanted to show that the Dodgers could move if they wanted to. Robert Moses didn’t bite.

Expos went to Puerto Rico because MLB was tired of supporting them in Montreal.

In the 80s, the Lakers used to play a couple of games in Vegas and the Celtics would play in Hartford each year.

And of course, the Packers played a few games each year in Milwaukee for decades.

It seemed like the Lions played in Milwaukee every year

I recall reading somewhere - might have been the book written in the 90s about the Jays and the business of baseball in Canada - that players in Canada could be paid in American or Canadian dollars, whichever is higher. No idea if that is still the case but the Canuck buck won't be anywhere closer to par with the US dollar anytime soon.

Nashville has the corporate sponsorship base MLB thrives on. That’s why Manfred has hinted at it being his favorite many times.

The Sounds in the NL, with Mattingly as GM and Corbin as manager would make for an interesting sell.
