I am not taking anything away from McDavid. He's amazing. But that is mitigated a bit by that being Zdeno Chara he blew right by like Chara was in quicksand. Chara was never the quickest afoot to begin with, and he's like 103 now. I think he started his career as Brad Park's defensive partner.

You mean we shouldn’t come to any conclusions after he played 1 whole game?

Wouldn’t have mattered who the D was. He also turned Bergeron inside out and was going fast enough that McAvoy (who can fly) didn’t have a chance at coming over at him. McDavid is going to beat anybody in the league when he gets a head of steam in his own zone.

That was a pretty sweet little backhand pass to get him going, BTW.

This Red Wings team stinks out loud. Three days after getting beat 8-2 in Boston, they were down 6-1 in Montreal late in the second period. Jeff Blashill is going to get the Phil Garner treatment before Halloween.

EDIT: There are two loser points in there (one in a shootout), but this will mark the first time in the club's 92-year history that they've started the season with six straight losses.

Kind of an odd revelation in an AP story today that the NHL kicked a bunch of money to USA hockey to fund/end the womens national teams dispute

“The NHL’s support of women’s hockey included the league stepping in at the last moment to end a wage dispute between USA Hockey and U.S. National team women players threatening to boycott the 2017 World Championships on home ice. Two people familiar with the situation said the NHL agreed to pay USA Hockey to help fund the four-year agreement. The people spoke to AP on the condition of anonymity because the league and USA Hockey have not made that information public.”

    1) Do they pay Canada too? If you’re Hockey Canada are you pissed off your league is paying for some of the team that beat you?

    2) Is a WNBA model coming and is it in any way viable/profitable?

Rangers are in DC to play the Caps tonight. Second of back-to-backs. They beat Colorado last night on a shoot out. It seems like the new approach is to put a lot of shots on net and send a lot of bodies to follow them. It leaves them vulnerable on the back end, especially with some of their defensemen not having the instincts to know when to pinch and when not to. But they held up last night. Hopefully it continues.

Caps have played two back-to-backs where the other team was rested ... Pens playing their opener, Devils playing their first game in a while after Sweden. Nice to be on the other side of that tonight.

Crosby's OT winner in Edmonton last night was disgusting.
