The Dye Course in French Lick is kept in impeccable shape and is one of the toughest SOBs I've ever seen. They've got a 300-yard par 3 with water in play. You could never play a PGA Tour event there. With all the steep falloffs and cliffs, you'd need emergency vehicles stationed at almost every hole. And, yes, the obvious downside is that everyone has to stay an hour away, in Looeyville.

They're playing the inaugural Senior LPGA Championship there next month. I hope they don't need emergency vehicles.

Yes, @Michael_ Gee, they played the Senior PGA there a couple years ago. It was over Memorial Day weekend, very questionable scheduling in Indiana for any sporting event that doesn't have wheels.

How long does a course have to be to be considered? Could this proposed course be a contender one day?

You'd think they'd love the location.

The plan, obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times, creates a single 18-hole, par-70 course from the 18-hole Jackson Park and 9-hole, par-3 South Shore course. It preserves much of the landscape of the century-old courses, taking 13 holes from Jackson Park and five from South Shore.

Mature trees will be preserved throughout to frame many of the holes on the new 7,354-yard course; with a single cut of rough blending into native grasses to restore a prairie-like aesthetic.

Spectators are encouraged to follow the signs and park in Rockford, then enjoy the 90-minute shuttle ride.

The USGA has reservations about Toledo's ability to get enough corporate support.

Inverness hardly to blame for U.S. Open’s long absence

They'd shuttle folks from all the downtown hotels like they do for conventions.

Maybe the course won't work (or ever get built) but I don't think parking would be the issue.
