It's no accident, but that's only on Lewis. He and his team were favorites and at home on 4 playoff occasions. He didn't sneak in, he won his division on at least 2 occasions yet he and his team failed. The most common and important factor was the man who ran the show. BLame the front office for failing to give Lewis the talent to win a division, blame Lewis for repeatedly getting there and failing.

Is he the longest serving head coach, in history, without a playoff win? He's not a clown like fatso in Buffalo, he's quiet, doesn't stir up shit and apparently is not averse to bringing in players with 'colorful' histories. Shottenheimer received truck loads of shit nationally for failing to win the big game. Yet he is much more successful than Lewis who is generally treated as a Prince of the NFL.

It's not racist to criticize his short comings, it's patroningly racist to act like he's anything more than a non description coach of a nondescript team

Maybe patronizingly racist is too strong. The conventional commentary and reporting of the NFL is so biased in favor of those in existing management positions, not from local print, that most NFL head coaches, GMs and all owners are revered if not if not connonized that criticism is reserved from individual decisions not for a body of work. By conventional I mean the ESPN, FOX, CBS and NBC pre game, post game and game coverage, the weekly shows on those networks. Almost all National news is so slanted in favor of the status quo and management that Marvin Lewis,, by virtue of his HC position, is immune from national coverage of his deficiencies. Aside the fear of openly criticizing the Dean of Minority HCs

The Steelers' crappy offseason got a little worse tonight. Defensive end Cam Heyward suffered a high ankle sprain against the Saints. Claims he will play week one, but I'm guessing that isn't realistic.

There is 0 chance the people "advising" him will not clean him out by the time he's 30. "Colin Kaepernick says he was ripped off, is dead broke" will soon be a headline. Guaranteed.

No wonder Sunshine likes a post. The lack of class involved in cheering an injury suits him just fine.

Figured we'd lock this one and move to the Pre-season thread. That way all discussion in the same place.
