It's really never been the case ... The amount you'd need to add to make an appreciable difference is ridiculous... Think multiple tons.

So in other words, dq, it's not possible to make Texas refreshing.

I'm not talking about big municipal pools, but smaller backyard pools. Wouldn't you think about 10 of the big blocks would cool down a 24-foot round pool for a while?

This story is from Orlando, and I do know I read some such stories during a heat wave more than 20 years ago.

Man attempts to cool swimming pool with 300 lb. block of ice

I think you're letting your "global warming is a hoax" reading seep into your sports brain.

For those comparing temp to temp straight up, you need to look at the entire weather picture.

Just drop Ted Williams into your pool.

Pool volume (in 000s of gallons) * degrees (Fahrenheit) you want to cool it * 43.75 = Number of pounds of ice you'd need. For a small (approx. 10,000 gallon) pool you would need a little over two tons of ice for a 10 degree reduction.

Please. I've been in Wisconsin in the summer. I live in North Texas. As Dickie V. would say, that's an N.C. -- no contest.

BTW, Spieth holes out a bunker shot for birdie on 18 (his ninth hole of the day) and is now only three back.
