Saw Dallas Buyer's Club... Leto should be a lock.

Amy Adams, “American Hustle” 14-1 , I'm surprised at the long odds.

When the favorite is 1-4, that's the reason. She's probably more of a lock than Daniel Day-Lewis was last year.

Did you see Blue Jasmine? It's not playing near me.
I think I'm going to AFI Silver Spring tomorrow to see Dallas Buyers Club.

That's good to know about Blue Jasmine. I think it was playing locally for a week, maybe two...

I'm generally not a big Woody Allen fan, but I have friends who feel similarly about him who said it the best movie they saw last year.

Saw "12 Years a Slave" last night. I'l be astounded if it doesn't win Best Picture. Emotionally draining and brutal to watch at various points but exceptionally well executed. One of those movies that makes you feel empty on the way out.

Chiwetel Ejiofor as best actor, Michael Fassbender as best supporting actor and Lupita Nyong'o as best supporting actress all deserve strong consideration, too. They each did extraordinarily well with extraordinarily difficult roles.

Slightly off the subject, but how does "12 Years" director Steve McQueen get away with using that name professionally? I thought organized Hollywood had rules against that sort of thing.

Is it because the other Steve McQueen is dead?

  12. Maybe because one's an actor and the other's a director so they would be members of different guilds?
