The perfect example for the lack of depth in women's basketball is Delaware, which had never won an NCAA tournament game prior to signing a once-in-a-generation player in Elena Delle Donne in 2010. Delle Donne signed with Connecticut out of high school, but was very close to her disabled sister and decided to stay closer to home and transferred to Delaware.

Delaware immediately became a contender, going something like 63-6 and winning conference titles her last two years.

Delle Donne graduated after 2013. Delaware went 20-11 and lost in the first round of the WNIT this year.

That's what I'm saying. There are so few truly great women's players, that one elite player can turn a middling program into a national contender.

If you put Andrew Wiggins on the Delaware men's team, they aren't winning 30 games in back-to-back years.

Becky Hammon at Colorado State as well... I think they were a top 5 team for most of her senior year.

If I'm not mistaken, I think the lowest seed to ever win the women's tournament was a No. 3 and both times that happened they were powerhouse programs (Tennessee and North Carolina). That does not suggest much parity.
