Quite the turnaround for Towson the past couple of years, now 3-0 for the first time since 1972 after beating Temple last night. Georgetown transfer Jerrelle Benimon is a stud.

Interesting that Frank Mason, who scored 15 for Kansas against Duke Tuesday, originally committed to Towson. The Tigers seem to get most of their scoring from the front court. Add Mason and you'd have a team that could do some damage.

Yeah, but the NCAA is evil so those kids should stop playing...

Here is the other thing - for all of the bitching and moaning about "one and done" guys from the old fogeys like John Feinstein, who still can't figure out why nobody other than people who attended the schools gives a shit about Army, Navy and Fordham, the reality is this: The one-and-done guys have made the product much better than it was a few years ago when guys could go straight from HS to the NBA. At least we get a year and often more than a year of the top players in college. And here is the other thing - as a result of that, it has made the NBA draft far more interesting and also has made the NBA product better because the players getting drafted aren't a complete mystery.

If it's supposedly a better product then why have things like average attendance, ratings and overall interest in the sport been steadily declining since the one and done era began? Perhaps the rule has been good for the NBA, but it has not been good for the overall health of college basketball.

Michigan State is a no-brainer No. 1 next week after beating Kentucky, right?

Not if the Uptown Boys from Columbia have anything to say about it. Lions and Spartans locked in a 44-all tie with 10 minutes to go.

Sometime in early December, Columbia's playing one of these marginal four-year schools from our area. It's called Central Penn College, and I think it's only been handing out some four-year degrees in the last five years or so. They're in the USCAA, the landing ground for whoever doesn't want to belong to the NCAA or NAIA.

It just amazes me that a fairly new program at a 1,200-student commuter school can get four D-I programs to schedule it -- Elon, Radford, Towson and Columbia.

That is weird. For Columbia and Towson I guess if they had a spot to fill that's a pretty quick, cheap bus trip. Not so much for Elon.

Maybe they were looking for a game that wouldn't affect their RPI.
