There's probably a lot of truth to that. Florida won't be down for long and one would think Tennessee will be strong again. I don't think anyone at Vanderbilt expects 10 wins every season, but I think after what Franklin did there, they think 7-8 wins and a bowl bid are attainable more often than not.

No. But the trickle down may affect peon staffers like my friend, who may see their salaries cut.

That's probably realistic. All you have to do these days to get to a bowl is win 6 games. If you can win your three non-conference games and go 3-6 in conference, you're there.

Grass is another who was a high school coach just a few years ago. He's risen through the ranks even quicker than Clark. I covered a game where he was head coach at Moody High School (a run of the mill Alabama 5A school) in 2005.

BTW, it's pronounced "Grahs" (not that anyone will ever get it right).

At the FCS level, it appears Sam Houston State has hired former Northwest Missouri State head coach Mel Tjeerdsma as its next head coach.

Even they found somebody before the Browns could.

Another FCS ... well, SWAC ... note: Former Jackson State coach Rick Comegy, who was unceremoniously dumped a few weeks after leading his team to the league championship game, landed up the road at Mississippi Valley State.
And Comegy was replaced by Harold Jackson, a 68-year-old JSU alum and former NFL star who had never been anything more than a position coach in 25 seasons in the business.

Jackson led the NFL in receiving yards the year BEFORE the merger with the AFL (1969). Let that sink in for a while.

But hey, he was in North Dallas Forty, so he's got that going for him ...

Tjeerdsma was basically retired and serving as Northwest's AD. But he can coach his ass off. Went to seven D-II finals and won three.

"KC Keeler at Sam Houston State" will replace "Rich Rod at Michigan" as the poster child for "bad fit".

And the AD should resign if he really was overruled by the president on the hire.
