The Association for Women in Sports Media is pleased to announce we are now accepting applications for our 2013 scholarship and internship program.

The program is open to female undergraduate or graduate students working toward careers in sports media – from newspaper and online writing, to broadcast journalism, to magazine writing, to sports media relations.

Winners will receive up to a $1,000 scholarship and be placed in a paid internship. Our 2012 interns worked at ESPN, Sports Illustrated, MLB.com, The Denver Post, The Washington Times and USA Swimming.

We are pleased to continue our partnership with the Sports Journalism Institute as we both work toward our goal of diversifying our country’s newsrooms. For the third consecutive year, an AWSM intern will attend the intensive SJI training before beginning her news writing internship.

Finalists will be chosen by a panel of AWSM board members, and winners will be selected jointly by AWSM and our prestigious group of employers.

Applications will be accepted through Oct. 31. Finalists will be notified by mid November, and winners determined shortly thereafter.

To apply, access the application site here: https://omnicontests4.com/?comp_id=779

Do this. Apply right now. Great program. Our intern this summer, Kelly Parsons, was terrific and I think she got as much out of being here as we got out of having her. I was able to meet the other interns at the joint APSE/AWSM conference and it was quite a talented group. I cannot recommend this program highly enough.
