    Meh, it doesn't hurt anything.

Playing games that count in Japan is good for business. Playing them a week before to balance out the jet lag is the only viable option.

Yes! And if it is the same as past Japan openers, they then get to come home and play more exhibition games.

The games are unwatchable in that dull, sterile stadium. It looks like a shitty version of Tropicana Field.

Agree. The hand-wringing is silly. Yes, the American MLB fans have been inconvenienced in that the opener for two clubs was played on a different continent and in a different time zone. Meanwhile, MLB's fans in Asia benefited.

It's the A's and the Mariners. "Count" is relative.

Looks like Bartolo Colon had a good start.

I'll be curious to see who has a better season between he and Freddy Garcia, who the Yankees decided to hold on to.

ESPN didn't have the rights to carry the games and the first was tape-delayed on MLB Network.

I agree. You gotta go in and promote these things. Either that or do like the NFL does. Pick a game like ESPN did, make it the Sunday night national showcase, and have MLB put on a concert or do something fun to surround it.

Just shocking that you would leap to MLB's defense. Really. ::)

That stadium is awful. Must be drearier to sit in that old dome than its hick cousins here.

A city on the cutting edge of science and ingenuity and they play sports in that dump.

Only fair. Balances things out. That's why Pittsburgh gets to have one of the best ballparks ever built.

Oddly, it was live on ESPN America in the U.K.
