Is it me, or is Week 1 a shitfest outside of two games?

Yep. But those two games make up for it. You can throw out the records every time Chattanooga and Nebraska get together. And all the boys at UTEP will tell you Stony Brook plays with a lot of passion.

Wait, those were the two games you were talking about right?

Actually I do think it would be a real challenge to find the worst game of opening weekend.

Hard to top Howard at Eastern Michigan for complete lack of redeeming value.

I swear I'm not the person who voted Boise No. 1. I did that all last year, but I'm not that big on blue yet.

That Vandy/Elon matchup has been underplayed by the media.

That's only funny because it's true.

Just noticed ... no one's taken a stab at the trivia question.

Hmmm, must either be really tough or really lame.

    Uh, don't answer that. :)

Well when I first saw the trivia question I Colorado came to mind...a second team didn't, so I didn't answer.

Re: 2011 SportsJournalists.com football poll -- EIGHT BALLOTS STILL AWOL

It's the day after Labor Day. First day of school for many of us with youngsters (and/or spouses who teach). We're all still dazzled by Maryland's fine uniforms ...

Despite all that, there are still EIGHT BALLOTS out there as we hit the deadline. I'm sending out a round of PMs, and if you can get your ballot in within the next couple of hours, I'll count it.

Hopefully by next week, with all the games actually played by, oh, 1 a.m. EDT Sunday, we'll get into our usual college football poll routine.

Thanks to all who are part of this poll for another season!

(time to come up with a story)
