True, but they also have to do well against the other playoff contenders in the AL. Taking three in Boston was a damn good start to that.

They also have 15 games left against the Angels. The only way the picture changes dramatically is if a team sweeps a series. If a team takes 2-of-3, that's only a 1-game difference. So I think the Rangers would be satisfied by winning one head-to-head game each time and anything after that would be gravy.

I saw Santos win the HR Derby at some Double-A all-star game in 2006 or 2007. Not a bad transformation from organizational fodder to big league relief pitcher.

Weird play of the day: Jhonny Peralta's three-run inside-the-park homer against Detroit. Center fielder Ryan Raburn opened the door for Peralta by, well, falling through the bullpen door. Someone forgot to lock it and Raburn opened it when he crashed into it trying to make a catch at the wall.

May 25 -- One of the Angels' biggest promotional giveaways of the season, Angels Garden Gnome Night (I know, I know ....) was a huge bust when they didn't arrive in time. They instead handed out postcards to be sent back with name and address, and the Garden Gnomes would be shipped directly to residences.
My kid's Angel Garden Gnome arrived today, July 19, nearly two months later.

He had another later in the game and that time, made the catch. Obviously, centerfield isn't his regular position.

Austin Jackson was given the day off. But one could argue, none of the Tigers deserved a day off Sunday since they hadn't done anything the previous three games.

Rangers leading Detroit 5-2 after a Kinsler homer.
Arlington's been waiting a long time, but his team's finally looking hot.

5-3 now. And with Feldman on the mound, it's anything but over.
