One of the criminally underpublicized sports figures goes to the silver screen.

Finding Forrester's Rob Brown gets the title role.

    Dennis Quaid is the coach.

Quaid has been in more sports movies than anyone else, right?

    The Express (2008)
    The Rookie (2002)
    Any Given Sunday (1999)
    Everybody's All-American (1988)
    Breaking Away (1979)
    Our Winning Season (1978)

    Kevin Costner:

1999: For Love Of The Game
    1996: Tin Cup
    1989: Field of Dreams
    1988: Bull Durham
    1985: American Flyers

... If we throw in his cameo in 1999's Play It To The Bone, we have a tie!

For all the bad Art Modell did moving the Browns to Baltimore, he earned as much good for what he did for Ernie Davis. Modell went all out helping him with his leukemia.
The Browns retired No. 45 for Davis.
I had a HS teacher that when he was a Syracuse student, tutored Davis. He said he was one of the nicest people he ever knew.

  4. Wasn't Quaid also in Dead, Solid Perfect, or some other Dan Jenkins book that was a made-for-TV movie?

  5. That was Randy Quaid.
Anyway, I can say that I saw Davis play and that it was when he first got sick that I first heard the word "leukemia."
