Haven't bought much from this era (especially rock), but here's some of my favorites:

    1. Green Day - American Idiot
    2. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium
    3. Brand New - Deja Entendu
    4. Foo Fighters - In Your Honor
    5. Audioslave - Out of Exile
    6. Bayside (self titled)
    7. Linkin Park - Minutes to Midnight
    8. Weezer - Maladroit
    9. My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade
    10. Gavin DeGraw - Chariot (probably doesn't even count as rock, but I'm one of the few guys who love this album, especially the acoustic version)

That's a great phrase for 25 year olds, Mikey.:) And good call on War on Errorism. Such a cool album.

Herkey Jerkey -- Great call on Bleed American. Except It's a shame they renamed it after Sept. 11. It was a great name for an album before OR after Sept. 11

And then fotf, that list has so much excellence dripping from it that it deserves its own thread!

I like that list a lot. Black Parade is a really fine album, as is Bayside's. I saw them about three weeks before their original drummer, John Beatz, died in a van accident in Wyoming. It was during the self-title tour. Such a good bunch of guys. We got pictures with Anthony, and I got him to record a promo for my buddy's radio show.

After much consideration, here is the list of my favorites since 2000. The list is long and distinguished.

New Pornographers — Mass Romantic, Electric Version
Wilco — YHF, Sky Blue Sky
Ryan Adams — Heartbreaker, Cold Roses, Gold, Demolition, Easy Tiger, Rock N Roll.
Death Cab for Cutie — Plans, Narrow Stairs
    Strokes — Is This It
    Jayhawks — Rainy Day Music
My Morning Jacket — Z, It Still Moves, Okonokos
    Franz Ferdinand — Franz Ferdinand
Modest Mouse — Good News for People Who Love Bad News
The Shins — Chutes too Narrow, Wincing the Night Away, Oh Inverted World
    Whiskeytown — Pneumonia
Dixie Chicks — Taking the Long Way
    Joe Strummer — Streetcore
White Stripes — Elephant, White Blood Cells
The Decemberists — The Crane Wife
Josh Rouse — Home, Under the Cold Blue Stars, 1972, Nashville, Subtitulo
    Pearl Jam — Pearl Jam
    Rhett Miller — The Instigator
Rilo Kiley — Under the Blacklight
U2 — All that You Can't Leave Behind
Pernice Brothers — Discover a Lovelier You, Yours, Mine & Ours, Live a Little
Ted Leo — Shake the Sheets, Hearts of Oak, Living for the Living
Dwight Yoakam — Blame the Vain
Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins — Rabbit Fur Coat
Kings of Leon — Youth and Young Manhood
The Broken West — I Can't Go On, I'll Go On
    Green Day — American Idiot

My favorite — Heartbreaker!!!! Jenny Lewis is a close second, followed by Wincing and Shake the Sheets.

Not to mention the countless terrific songs off albums that either didn't make the cut or I didn't buy...yet.

    Mr Slydell,

    Random notes.

I didn't put Kaiser Chiefs' first on my list. Like them more than Arctic Monkeys. I'm tempted to put Cash's American IV on ... again, it's like the Strummer entry. The field would expand if live albums (e.g. Steve Earle, Wilco, Love: Forever Changes Concert) were included.

Nice call on The Jayhawks, Bob.

Would note, however, that U2's All that You Can't Leave Behind, while clearly one of the best albums of the decade, actually came out in 2000, a few weeks before election day. So still of the Clinton years. Otherwise it would have been on my list, too.

You're assuming I liked the Clinton years. All I know is it came out in 2000, I didn't care when. Most of its shelf life was after Dubya was elected, or chosen by the Scotus or whatever he did. Does that count?

And yes, good call. Not their best total album, but maybe their second best behind Hollywood Town Hall, IMHO.

I thought about that, but given that only "Beautiful Day" came out during the Clinton years. That, and there was their Super Bowl halftime performance with "Walk On," which very much became a song associated with 9/11. Had it been January 2000, I would have omitted it, but it was close enough.

For those reasons, I included it on my list.
