In a certain region, maybe ... but no way the average drops to that.

Yes, well, you don't really NEED to work 50 miles from home. Get another job. [/twobit]

Bet the oil companies still have a near-record quarter.

    A little perspective:

In 1980 the average car was $6,000, a Corvette was $12,000 and gas was $1.30 a gallon.

Now the average car is $25,000+, a Corvette is $50,000+ and gas is $2.50 a gallon.

Even at $3 a gallon, its rate of increase is much less than the prices of the vehicles that it is poured into. And there are many more fuel-efficient cars available today than were available in 1980.

    And to answer somebody's question:

    Venezuela: 14 cents per gallon.

Iraqis were paying only 4 cents a gallon in 2003. They're paying 40 cents a gallon today.

    It's true, you figured out.

This was Bush's plot with the oil companies: Raise prices so it hurts the economy, thus hurting the GOP's chances in the off-year elections and causes Bush's approval ratings to drop.

    A brilliant plan.

Thank you for pointing out B. I think sometimes that gets lost in this whole gas-price complaint.

2.91 here. But I'm in an environmentally-conscious state. Or so they tell me; it's hard to believe with water and Snapple bottles lining the road.

Yeah, the gas prices, that's what caused his approval ratings to fall. Without those high gas prices, top of the mountain.

Snapple, the best stuff ON Earth.

Oh, and it's $2.59 in my hometown, $2.79 where I am a little closer to the middle of RSN General Hospital.
