I would guarantee a division winner, but would throw them in the pot and seed them strictly by record, that is, no automatic home court for the first round. If somehow a division winner had the 9th or 10th best record in the conference, they'd be in as an 8.

Without a division championship meaning something, there's no point in having divisions and the NBA should do away with them. Just go East and West.

    Agree. Divisions are dumb.

But a division winner will not have the 9th or 10th best record in the conference. Not often enough to matter anyway.

McGinnis? Heck, the Sixers became a much better team by trading him away for Bobby Jones.

Not really. The Sixers record was significantly worse the year after that trade (with the rest of the cast being about the same) than it'd' been the prior couple years with McGinnis.

That said, McGinnis really belongs on Pacers all time team more than the Sixers. He was awesome during his early years in Indiana, but not so much after he got fat and complacent in his later tenures in Philly and Denver.
