Good to see Spieth down the board some. I got tired of him in about six months. at this point I imagine he's a little tired of himself.

    No.

That was more or less the most stirring golf thing that ever has been.

You guys have no faith ....

    In the sheer amount ....

That is owed in Phil's gambling debts.

His scheduled nosedive will take place in the final round.

The thing about Jack...he wasn't really "aw, Jack" until that. He was Nicklaus and he was in decline for many years, and playing in a far less sentimental, emotionally manipulative time. that win actually ushered in a more sentimental "personality" age, which is how Fred couples became mythologized in golf despite being a pretty healthy prick half of the time and winning all of one major.

Well, where it will rank if 49-year old Steve Stricker (67 today) wins his first major and becomes the oldest man ever to do so at the same time?

So Nicklaus in '86 will never be tooped?

When he won the Masters, Mr. Lugs said, "Good for him. The kid seems like he's got a good head on his shoulders."

"Which means he'll turn to shit very soon," I replied.

Human beings are so freaking predictable.

Agreed. Jack hadn't won a major since the 1980 PGA, and that week a columnist in the AJC (Bisher?) wrote that he was absolutely done, which Jack famously clipped and used as inspiration.

A Phil win this week would be great fun, but not transcendent. He's been a little off the last couple years but his 2013 Open win is still fresh and he can't be more of a fan favorite than he already is.

Tom Watson came a putt away from tooping... uh, topping it.

    Tom McCollister.

He wrote Nicklaus was “gone, done, he just doesn’t have the game anymore.”

Tiger then has enough clippings to paper over Butler's Cabin 10 times over.

Can you imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth by the USGA if someone would have shot 63 in a U.S. Open?......
76 of the 156 that started today are at par or better. Just shy of half the field.
That happens in a U.S. Open, you're not breaking par the next day. Period.
