Yeah, I thought Oregon would keep it respectable but didn't think they'd win. I was right about the "not winning" part, not so much on "respectable." New QB, entirely new coaching staff, playing the defending champ... that was a tall order. They'll be OK.

The QB situation behind Nix is kind of fascinating. Ty Thompson came in as the host heralded QB recruit they've had... and they have done everything they could to keep him off the field. Last year they left the starter in to finish games when he was clearly hurt. It's baffling. I suspect Thompson just isn't that good.

Next year Oregon has a QB recruit coming in that some sites rank as the top HS QB in the country -- ahead of Arch Manning. I'm not sure what Thompson's goals are.... but if they include actually playing in a college football game he probably should have transferred this off-season.

The Rose Bowl backed down. All it took was telling them that if they didn't sign on the playoff would leave them out.

    12 teams starting in '24.

Granddaddy's only option was to say, "We'll be a quarterfinal every year" to keep Jan. 1/2 and sunsets. As such, they will get a semifinal every three years.

    Whatever. Granddaddy blinked.

So who makes a 12-team playoff in 2022?

    ACC: Clemson
B1G: Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State
    B12: TCU
    P12: USC, Washington
    SEC: Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee
    G5: Tulane

That's 11. Who's the 12th? UTSA is 10-2. Texas has played the third-most difficult schedule but is 8-4. Utah, Kansas State, Oregon, LSU, FSU, UCLA and Oregon State are all 9-3. Then there's Boise, Cincinnati, UCF and North Carolina.

    Bicker, bicker, bicker.

And it's not even December 25th yet.

Solves nothing. The political temperature would not be turned down one degree ... the Power Five will still do everything to discredit worth Group of Five candidates. And, of course, this could mean 15-16 games will be needed from a program to determine a national title, so it's good to see that we're thinking of the "student-athlete's" health and well-being ...

    $o ... yeah ... exactly one rea$on to do thi$ ...

Kansas State would be in with a win Saturday under this setup. But Purdue might be shut out, as the contract technically calls for the six highest-ranked champions to get auto-bids. Would four losses be enough to vault them over an 11-2 UTSA or Sun Belt champ?

They haven't been student athletes....well, ever, really. George Gipp was found to be bullshit and Jock Sutherland was straight up paying players to play football but not necessarily attend Pitt in the 1920s. We're just changing the store name out front from "Mon Valley Hunt Club" to "Total Fucking Mafia Front and Hangout -- FBI Prohibited" now.

Much of the Power 5 is discrediting themselves by being unable to win a semifinal game.

    Big Ten: 2-4
    Pac-12: 1-1
    Notre Dame: 0-2
    Big 12: 0-4
    --------------------
    Total: 3-11

Depending on the outcomes Saturday, would have to think they'd throw a bone to the B12 or ACC here. K State or FSU? Utah maybe bumps Washington, if they beat SC?

As of Tuesday's standings, I believe this would be your bracket. They're taking the top six conference champions. Don't know if conference champions out of the top four would slot into 5 or 6 or be placed based on their ranking. I'm guessing based on their ranking, but they get in.

    Byes
    1. Georgia
    2. Michigan
    3. TCU
    4. USC

    First round
    12. Tulane at 5. Ohio State
    11. Utah at 6. Alabama
    10. Kansas State at 7. Tennessee
    9. Clemson at 8. Penn State

2024: Quarterfinals at Fiesta, Peach, Rose and Sugar, semis at Cotton and Orange.
2025: Quarterfinals at Cotton, Orange, Rose and Sugar, semis at Fiesta and Peach

So Granddaddy still gets 2 p.m. PST with sunsets on Jan. 1/2 this year and the next three seasons. It hosts a semifinal in the 2023 season. It would be in line for a semifinal in the 2026 season, but by this makeup, it wouldn't be played until roughly Jan. 8-10 or so.
