George Zimmerman caught speeding made bigger news.

In Navy Yard massacre we practically knew what the shooter had
for breakfast. In Chicago shooting we don't even know
who pulled the trigger a day later.

There were non-white victims at the Navy Yards

I am of the belief that if more of the "routine" shootings were covered in
a large way like the sensational ones, revisions to gun control laws would
    get more traction.

Because it's not in a government naval yard?

The Navy Yard shooter was also killed. Bit easier to track down his background when he's already dead and identifiable, as opposed to somebody walking the streets because his victims don't want to cooperate with the police for fear of being seen as "snitches".

With a navy yard, you have to consider it to be a major terrorist target.

Given the lack of security our government did not think so. I will have more
trouble getting into Jet game Sunday with new NFL security measurements in place.

(Because this isn't the politics thread I'll tread gently here and avoid stating my personal opinion on the issue)

The NRA and other opponents of gun control have won.

If the past year has taught us anything, it is that national gun control legislation will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER be passed in this country — for better or worse.

I live among (and at my shop, hear from) plenty of right-wing folks and by far, this is their No. 1, non-negotiable issue. Even more than abortion, Obamacare and those damn federally-protected wolves.

Sometimes you just have to tip your hat and move on.

I would think the only way there would be any major national gun legislation would be if there was such a major gun attack on a right-wing/Republican entity which would shock them to the point where they would consider it. And even then, you'd have the NRA arguing that everyone should be armed instead of the legislation, because they would be saying that war was declared against them.

Yeah, thank God that's never happened:

It hasn't happened. You're comparing one incident in which one person got shot compared to incidents in which double-digit amounts of people have been killed?
