For the younger generation, the first time the space shuttle blew up is also a JFK/Pearl Harbor moment.

I was in high school and I remember kids coming back from lunch, saying the space shuttle blew up. I think I was glued to the TV as soon as I got home.

I was a freshman in college for Challenger.

What a horrific shock, but, still, small potatoes compared with the other three days, to me.

From a national standpoint, yes, the Challenger was smaller than the other three, but my aunt's boyfriend at the time was good frinds with Christa McAuliffe - I believe they both taught in the same school, so it actualy hit our family hard.

Well, that's not really the point of my post.

I would guess that the Challenger, for a select number of people, was the worst day of their lives by far.
