‘Militia’ or ‘domestic terrorist’? Detroit TV station changes its style

    WDIV-TV is Detroit’s NBC affiliate.

An armed group that invaded government buildings in any other country would be referred to as a terrorist group. An armed group that plotted to kidnap a senior government official with the intent to start an insurrection would also be referred to as a terrorist group.

I think this change is long overdue and is an accurate summation of those groups.

A militia group is a militia group - when they decide to take action, they become domestic terrorists. Terrorism as we know is seeking to achieve political change through violence or threat of violence.

Yes. And we're likely to see more such terrorism from these Trump Trash groups over the next few weeks/months.

They had a "Day of Rage" out here in Portland Sunday, toppling statues of Lincoln and Roosevelt for their actions/attitudes toward Native Americans. I almost wonder if people like that avoid the "domestic terror" label because they really aren't seeking political change - they just want to destroy stuff for its own sake.

They are seeking political change. They want the ones they believe are "bad" out of office and their own kind in there, or no one at all for a free-for-all. Plus, they just like to destroy stuff because they can and no one is stopping them. The Antifia and destructive ones there and elsewhere are domestic terrorists as well and should be labeled as such.

In 2020 terms, "militia" is just a euphemism for an armed, all-white, all-male gang.

Don't militias exist only in case they need to fight the government?

The Militia Acts of 1792 and 1795 provided for militias that the president could call upon to fight for the government. The Militia Act of 1902 replaced those groups, many of which struggled with training and equipment, with the National Guard as we know it today.

These random Bubba Brigades are not any sort of military force. They’re a bunch of random cranks far-right who want to shoot up potatoes and store-brand cola two-liters with the AR-15s that they’ve illegally converted to full auto and think that doing so makes them John Rambo in lifted pickup trucks, ready to roar into town to fight The Gub’mint.

No. They are only formed, nowadays, to fight libtards.
