I heard that this same newspaper might be looking for someone to cover a minor league baseball team due to upcoming layoffs and reorganization.

Do you know whether this would be a freelance opportunity?

In terms of home games, probably not. But in terms of road games, both Trenton papers can always use stringers for some of the Thunder's (Eastern League) road games.

Sounds like he's getting worse. Back when his kids were in high school, word was that he would suspend the writer without pay for a week or more if they spelled one of his kid's teammates names wrong, or god forbid, The Times beat them on something involving his kid's school.

Let me get this straight. Some guy got fired because he made a mistake in a box score?

Based on the stories I've heard there, wouldn't surprise me if it was true.

For those that are wondering about the breakdown of a typical Trentonian, here's how today's breaksdown:
56 pages, including front and back cover meaning 54 pages inside.
Pages 2-12 are "news". But in those pages is page 2, which has two stories: their "backtalk" section (readers call in with comments on the news and "ed note" makes a smart-ass comment in resopnse) and a daily columnist; page 6 which has a 3/4 page picture of their Page 6 girl and the rest of the page is celebrity news, plus on another page the weather graphic takes up roughly 2/3 of the page.
Page 13 - full page ad encouraging readers to take out a classified ad to sell something
    Page 14 - obits
    Page 15 - business
    Page 16 - editorial
Pages 17-24 "features" (with a full page TV listing, 2 pages of movie listings and 3 pages of comics)
    Pages 25-31 classified ads
Pages 32-55 sports, including the weekly "poster girl" (a full page color picture of a woman in a bathing suit)

yes. You must not be familiar with JRC. This is standard operating procedure. It used to be worse when that brat Lee was in high school -- he used to do a lot of this boxscore accounting.

another no-no: missing a juco volleyball match or something in the local schedule. if the Times had it, there'd be hell to pay.

Was The Trentonian actually a paper of repute once upon a time?
