Do you believe in flu shots? I used to get them, and a few days later I'd have the flu. I know doctors say you don't get the flu from a flu shot, but my experiences scared me away from regular flu shots.

I got one last year and didn't get the flu. I might get one this year.

I'd be curious to read others' perspectives on flu shots (see poll above).

I'm holding out for a flu enema.

  3. Never.

We live in an overmedicated society.

I haven't had a prescription in my adult life, and I'm pushing 40.

    Time for another beer, though.

    I don't get sick. I don't believe in it.

  5. Some lady I worked with in high school got a flu shot and had an allergic reaction. She was in the hospital for around 6 months. She lost all of her hair and had many twitching problems...I guess she was lucky to have made it through the experience and live to tell about it. Still, not something you'd expect to happen after getting a flu shot.

I became a quick convert to flu shots have a long and rather horrible bout with it a few years back. Since then, I've gotten a shot every year, when possible.

    Who should get the shot:
Children aged 6 months until their 5th birthday,
    Pregnant women,
People 50 years of age and older,
People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions, and
People who live in nursing homes and other long term care facilities
People who are allergic to eggs should not get the shot. Ever.

A great reference book is Gina Kolata's very readable "Flu: The Story of the Great Influenza Pandemic of 1918 and the Search for the Virus That Caused It ."

For those of you who won't get the shot and don't believe in getting sick, please stay home if the bug gets you. Same goes for people with colds.
    :)

Got one for a change last November ... and went through the winter pretty much cold-free.

I think I'll get another Thursday night.

Never. And especially not after my dad got one and got awfully sick shortly after the one he received.

I'm not on the list of people who should get one, so I don't. I'm not big on medicating myself unless it's absolutely necessary.
