November 3, 2006 -- The body of a beautiful, talented actress was found hanging from a shower rod in the bathtub of a Greenwich Village apartment by her horrified husband, who cried out, "Why? Why?" cops and witnesses said.
Adrienne Shelly, 40, who was also a director and screenwriter, apparently killed herself, cops said, but added they're examining some mysterious aspects of the case.
The petite blonde, who was born Adrienne Levine, was best known for her deadpan comic delivery and early lead roles in two Hal Hartley-directed films set on her native Long Island - "The Unbelievable Truth" and "Trust," both cult classics.

She was a beautiful woman, IMO. What a shame, if it indeed turns out to have been a suicide. RIP.

I remember watching "The Unbelievable Truth" once and my favorite part was the nerd who kept picking fights with people.
I loved Adriene in Theresa's Tatoo.

I've got a ten spot on the husband getting dinged for this:

    1) When women kill themselves, they most often use pills. Hanging's suspicious.

    2) His announcing very loudly that he was worried, and asking the doorman to come up with him, which strikes me as unusual behavior. I'm worried about someone, I don't leave it eight hours, and I'm running up the stairs two-at-a-time, not looking for company. Screams alibi-hunting to me.

    3) The sneaker prints in the bath.

    4) The coroner not yet having declared a cause of death.

I could be wrong, but my cynical, twisted gut says, The dude did it.

Very convincing, Jones. I'll thrown down a tenspot, too.

That's exactly what I thought. Why wait and beg someone to come up with you? You afraid your wife's waiting for you with a shotgun?

I thought the exact same thing.

    It's not the husband: http://wcbstv.com/topstories/local_story_306192615.html

A construction worker has allegedly confessed to the crime
    ...
Pillco allegedly punched the 5-foot-2 actress after she complained about the noise he was making in the West Village apartment building where her office is located, killing her.

He then allegedly admitted to dragging the body up to her office, and positioning her in the shower to make her death look like a suicide.

  10. OR, maybe it was the husband via murder for hire.

Shelly's husband, Andrew Ostroy - who was grilled by detectives for five hours, who pushed police to keep investigating, who even paid for a private autopsy - had only praise for the NYPD last night.

"My wife's senseless death is devastating to me, our families and friends," he said. "We are incredibly grateful to the New York City Police Department for their dedication, professionalism and tenacity in following up on every lead in this case."
