It's historic. Isn't that right, SPC?

Why in the world would you be stunned? Have you not been paying much attention since 2016?

I just would have figured that this would have been an opportunity to step back from the guy. At least take the foot off the pedal a bit. We know most of the Rs in Congress think he's a drag on the party.

And they’re terrified of being primaried by his supporters. Craven hacks, the lot of them.

True - but a year is a long time to re-set the narrative. The whole thing is such a weird feedback loop, the base hears legislators and conservative pundits pledge alliegence to Trump, so they do to - the legislators and pundits see the loyalty of the base and fear the consequences of appearing anti-Trump. See the Fox News-Dominion lawsuit.

Alt take: Republican voters and elected officials believe what Trump believes and admire him for it and therefore support him.

Dude, he egged on a coup attempt and came out of it just as strong.

Sure but since then a) people know the election fraud charges are bogus, b) they know Trump won't win in '24 and will likely hurt the party down ballot and c) the Jan. 6th thing was bogus. His support IS softer. The safe seats are going to be safe regardless, but you lose the House, and are still out in the Senate - when Trump and Trump support is a drag on the toss-ups.

The people who believed the election fraud nonsense on 1/6/21 still believe it today. Maybe a minuscule number of people flipped. Kevin McCarthy was on his knees servicing Trump within two weeks.
