I was supposed to see Matt Nathanson tonight. I was very excited. Then I tested positive for Covid yesterday.

    Grrr.

But... as I was sitting here feeling sorry for myself because I was at home farting around on Twitter instead of downtown at the show, I saw a tweet from Echo and the Bunnymen, maybe my favorite band. They announced a show at a casino that is literally less than three miles from my house. The artist presale had just opened. I got orchestra pit tickets. They're only playing three shows in the US and this is one of them.

    It's a good day.

Now that I've scratched my serious Hold Steady itch at least until Brooklyn in the fall (just no way I can make the summer shows with my work schedule ...), some pretty interesting acts are coming locally in the next month or two, including:
    Titus Andronicus
Lukas Nelson & The Promise of the Real
    Orville Peck
    Amanda Shires
    Drive-By Truckers
    Houndmouth
    Belle and Sebastian

Probably won't see all of them but I'll try to pick two or three, with DBT being a slam dunk. I've heard great things about Titus Andronicus live.

Left to my devices while my wife is away I bought tickets to The Mavericks and two oldies acts I will not ID at this time because I am delicate do not wish to be judged in my time of Covid recovery.

The headliner had a hit I liked and I've never seen him live, so fuck it, nobody is getting any younger.

I paid to see Vanilla Ice in 1990. This is a safe place.

Anybody want to go to Inhaler in Boston on Saturday? My cousin has 2 extra tickets. I don't know how much they are.

I listened to Christian rock until I was 16. Everybody else can just shut up about being embarrassed about their music taste unless they paid cold hard cash to watch Audio Adrenaline open for Steven Curtis Chapman or can recall Geoff Moore and the Distance playing “Home Run” in their high school gym asa formative moment.

I realize that I m not breaking any new ground by saying this... but man, TicketMaster's system is really broken. And not just in an ethical, "what are these fees" kind of way.

The vast majority of shows I go to are either general admission venues or theaters that don't use TM. I very rarely have to do the full-on TM online experience.

My parents are big Jason Isbell fans. Tickets to his show in San Diego went on sale this morning at 10am. There was no presale at all. My mom's eyesight is failing and she's struggling with online stuff, so she asked if I could get tickets for them. The venue uses TicketMaster.

Tickets went on sale at 10am. I was logged in 10 minutes early, ready to go. At precisely 10am the screen switched to "loading tickets, get ready!" Then, at 10:04, it switched to "This event is sold out." I tried on different computers and the app but no luck, it's sold out.

I was pissed. I never even had a chance. And the venue isn't very big, but selling out in four minutes seemed absurd.

Just for the hell of it, I checked the TicketMaster page about ten minutes ago... and I got two seats in the second row, dead center. Maybe three-quarters of the seats are still available. And this is not resale -- this is face value.

I'm thrilled I got the tickets... but Jesus, TicketMaster, how do you let this happen? You turn away fans by telling them an event sold out when the vast majority of tickets are available?

Definitely will never hesitate to do that again. Loved it.

On my own. My own dinner and drinks out. My own space. My own breaks. My own space. My own space. My own space.

And White Reaper was awesome. Just awesome. And I took it ALL in. So much fun.

Hopeful for a light workday tomorrow because I am old.

Boss Time with my dad in three days. Let's go.
