Especially in a throw-the-ball-all-over-the place era like today.

Although oddly there have been quite a few strong defensive showings this season.

True. Nobody gets excited about innovative defensive schemes. Because they don’t understand them. I never have. There is no marketing-friendly phrase like Air Raid for defensive plans.

Because Sportsjournalists don’t want to believe that they work for the toy department of the news media, they treat their subjects with the respect owed to heads of state, titans of industry, Nobel Laureates and honest spiritual leaders, instead of the poorly educated hucksters, overwrought gym teachers, leaches and suspected pedophiles that make up the administrative and coaching professions of the sports world.

Example, out of some sort of deference to Brian Kelly, a known unrecalcitrant liar, no one asked him if he spoke the family of the student he killed.

No one asked either Riley or Kelly if they told any recruits, players or players families the chances they wouldn’t coach at the their respective schools during the time frame it wold take them to earn a degree? Did they lead children to believe that they wold be there for them forthe length of their commitment? Why do they feel no sense of responsibility to stand by their commitment to children>

No one asked Kelly or any of the ordained administrators of NotreDame if teaching, coaching and running the premier Catholic Religious Post Secondary School in the United States if they should be held to higher standard of care of professionalism that used car salesman or drug dealer?

When Brian Kelly gets more deference than Roger Stone, Steve Bannon and Lauren Boebert, the problem isn’t Kelly’s, its the sports journalist fraternity who is afraid that one bad word and the snacks in the press room will be reduced to bread and water

In my younger years I wish the press room spread were limited to bread and water. I would've weighed 96 pounds.

Notre Dame, of the legendary soggy, saggy, splitting, floppy, flabby, flaccid tubes of animal flesh floating languidly in a fetid bath of malodorous swill on Saturday afternoons in the press box, used to have just fan fucking tastic fudge brownies at their midweek press conferences. Moist, chewy, thick and heavy, just enough chopped walnuts to give it a tiny chewy crunch with each bite.
