So owners first sign contracts involving the expenditure of no real money yet to goose season ticket revenue and sponsorship deals they're damn free to collect during the lockout. Then they declare the lockout so everybody else doesn't get paid. I assume agents aren't so brain dead as to not include significant money up front on signing in these deals. That's the beauty part. There's now a significant constituency within the players' union to end the strife no matter what because, hey, they got theirs.

I don't understand the sudden MLB move toward minor franchise cheapness. A typical Lowe's has a bigger payroll.
