Kieran Trippier told friend to 'lump on' bet ahead of Atletico Madrid move

Interesting issue — renown soccer player lets his friend knows his next destination (for which there was a betting market). Friend asks if he can bet on it and soccer player tells him, while. no guarantees, he should go ahead and do it. Soccer player doesn’t have any part in the action but is banned 10 games.

 

Read that story on the AP wire. The crazy thing was that his friends were betting only small amounts. The biggest bet was 65 pounds. They were basically making beer money, not breaking the bank. Guess the league has to set an example, though, and the rule is clear.

 

Do you need to report those winnings? I thought you didn’t need to report less than $10k in gambling income.

 

I wish.

Perhaps in winnings from an actual casino and not online or mobile.

I’m getting W-2s already emailed to me and a copy goes to the IRS. Any winnings over $600 as those are recorded.

I keep playing these BJ tournaments on a couple sites. They offer them daily. A free entry and then you can pay $5 or $10 to re-enter. I just use the free entry. Usually top prize is $100, maybe 1K for a weekly or special event.

Yesterday one of them offered a $3K prize. I was the leader much of the day. Then toward closing time a couple new people showed up near the top and the guy below me suddenly moved above. A bit of back and forth but I couldn't make up ground and it wasn't worth risking falling too low because fourth place was $1,500 and then it dropped down to $500. I only had a couple hundred more chips than the $500 guy as the buzzer came nearer so I stopped and hoped he wasn't around to pass me. He wasn't.

So I wound up with a $1,500 win without paying a dime. Maybe I can be @exmediahack this year.

 

Turns out I won nothing. The fine print says they distribute the winnings as a casino bonus. Which requires a 15X rollover to cash out. So I'd have to bet 75K in their online casino to get the 1500. Good idea!

 

Another DK 100% boost today on Nets-Sixers. Got Joe Harris at a boosted +250 for over 2.5 3s. Cashed in the first half.
