    This is not a phrase sportswriters use but instead the people who write the earnings press releases for publishers. The phrase "(company) has completed a transformative quarter" in a reference to their quarterly electronic publishing revenues. This is then followed by a statistic about how electronic revenues have increased as a percentage of overall revenues. Indeed they have, because print revenues have declined by a bunch while electronic revenues have declined by a little.
