    I thought that was only part of it, and they didn’t want to have to vote down a qualified nominee like Garland right before the election.

    That's the point. If you are a qualified nominee, you get put on the court. There have been 145 nominations, 11 have been rejected. You don't get to that point in the process to get turned away

    It doesn't work that way, at least not any longer. You have to have a president and Senate in the same party and on your side.

    I Biden wins the White House but Republicans hold the Senate and a seat opens up Jan. 21, do you really think Republicans would confirm any nominee he put up there? I don't.

    Because it’s easier and more reliable for the pollsters and the pollsters deliver news/clicks.
    But to your point, every national poll should come with an explanation that says “a lead of x points means candidate A has a xx% chance of winning the electoral college.” Or something like that.
