We all know how good Doc was at his job. But if there were a vote for the classiest, nicest, most considerate person in hockey, Mr. Emrick wins by a landslide.

I watched a lot of the women's water polo competition in 2004 when the US had a player from a town I used to work in. He had the perfect cadence for the sport, especially in man-up situations. So much so, I kept expecting to hear an organ blast from the old Chicago Stadium after the US scored.

I think what I'll remember most, outside his enthusiasm for the sport, was how during a stoppage in a really tight game, he'd throw in some odd fact like, "The Hershey Bears took a 3-2 lead over the New Haven Nighthawks in their AHL semifinal last night on a late goal. John Smith played for the Bears last year, will he come up with the winner tonight?"

    Happy retirement, indeed.

This may be on the NHL thread. Doc deserves his own. Never met him, have heard many times he's a genuinely good guy. And I'll have OHHHHH, IT DIDN'T GO stuck in my head from Holtby's save in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Only pxp'er I've ever heard use "shillelagh" to describe moving the puck.

We must be thinking of two completely different Kenny Alberts.
