    From Gannett's careers site:

"The Tallahassee Democrat has a beat opening for Florida State football and athletics coverage. This writer will write FSU sports stories that appeal to the local and state market, and also produce multimedia content.

This reporter should be comfortable with breaking news, enterprise/feature reporting, and written analysis for digital and print; using social media to promote personal and Tallahassee.com sports brands; understanding how to use metrics to help shape coverage; and helping produce video content."

Specific level of experience required for this opening?

It's Gannett, tell them you'll work 75 hours a week for $25K/year and experience doesn't matter.

Link is inactive already. Must have had someone in mind when they posted it.

Ah. Just like that New York Times position from a week or two ago. Posted on a Monday afternoon, filled by Wednesday.

Yeah, a lot of times newsrooms already have a "preferred candidate," and they must post the listing online for HR legal reasons.

This did not figure to be a prolonged search in the middle of a season. Annoying that stuff like this even gets posted as open given the number of people currently out of work, but rules are rules in the HR world.

Removing the posting doesn't mean it's been filled internally.

Last position we advertised for a few years ago (at another Gannett property) had over 100 applicants in 48 hours, and that was for a general sports position. At some point, you need to just cut off the submission process to be able to go through the already submitted ones, especially for something that's a high profile a major college beat.
