He is being told that he's getting killed in the polls, and he has no chance of winning unless he pulls back "suburban housewives" from Biden.

Most politicians who try to do things subtly, would try to figure out what is important to white, suburban women and emphasize that part of their platform.

Trump, on the other hand, 1) names them, and 2) tries to be transactional without having any clue what white, suburban women actually care about.

Then there is also the dubious idea that the suburbs are anything like what he imagines anymore (if they ever were). There are a lot of black, middle class families in the burbs and they ain't voting for Donald Trump.

People are shallow and they are hooked in by nonsensical populist promises from politicians. But most people aren't bad people in their hearts. I am not sure this idea that "low income" is scarier to people than their being bothered inequality and discrimination the recent protests are putting at the forefront is true.

The bottom line for the people trying to figure out a path for him winning is that he will get 30 percent of the redneck / racist/ deplorables / moron vote. Last time, he supplemented that with people who were fed up with politics as usual, which included some working class midwesterners, some working class, white suburban women and a bunch of white men, some college educated. Those people largely seem to be done with him -- understand they made a mistake.

He will continue to do these kinds of crude attempts to get votes the way he did in that tweet, and he will increasingly be promising everything and everything like he is opening up a candy store -- tax cuts, health care promises, anything that promises to give shit to people so he can be Santa Claus, etc.

My feeds last night were full of people salivating over this debate but it's not going to change anyone's vote. All anyone wants is to hear are "you're no Jack Kennedy"-like takedowns. Harris will have a few and Pence will smirk them off.

The rot in the GOP won't end if Trump loses this November.

Pence was pretty good against Kaine. And he can deflect questions with the best of them. But he does have at least some sense of shame in a way which Trump doesn’t so the idea is that he may have to answer direct questions on their policies.
