    Sure is.
But what's really surprising is the list of the schools with the 10 highest in-state tuition and fees.

    Institution Name ITF
    William & Mary $23,628
    Pitt $19,718
    VMI $19,118
    Colorado School of Mines $19,062
    New Hampshire $18,879
    Vermont $18,802
    Penn State $18,450
    Virginia $17,798
    New Jersey Inst Tech $17,674
    Connecticut $17,226

I'm not surprised by Colorado School of Mines. That school is incredible. Enrollment is severely limited -- but if you get in, man it's a freakin' hell of an education. The workload and courses are mind-boggling.

I've done some football scrimmages there. The school is at the base of the Rockies in Golden. Up on Lookout Mountain to the west and in the shadow of the school/football stadium, there's a big "M" that undergraduates hike up every fall to freshly paint in white.

A couple of years ago, I was doing a scrimmage and one of the players said to me, "Do you know what that M stands for?"

    Sheepishly, I said, "Um, Mines."

    The player. "Nope. Misery."

  4. I can answer why New Hampshire is on the list (yes, I went there). It gets little financial support from the state.

Same with the Virginia schools. (And William & Mary has only been a public university for a little over a century.)

URI's in-state tuition is at $14,000 for a similar reason. I think they receive about 8 percent of their budget from the state. Whole lot of Jersey residents paying an incredible amount of money to go there.
