There is some logic to that. If you're down by five or six runs, you can keep pressure on a pitcher if there's constantly someone on base. Five straight one-out hits that bring in two runs and still give you a couple of runners on can be preferable to a single-out-home run sequence that leaves you with the same two runs scored, no one on, and you're still behind by a couple of runs.
A pitcher can write off a single home run as a mistake pitch and reset. When a team racks him for several hits in a row, it often leads to more mistakes.

I think Frank Tanana is the AL leader.

Has anyone guessed Bert "be home" Blyleven?

Yeah, I did earlier, going off the knowledge that he held the single-season record. Turns out he "only" had 430 (some of them given up with the Pirates, which is why Tanana is ahead of him in the AL).

The year Bruce Sutter made the HOF (2006) with 300 career saves, another pitcher with 303 career saves dropped off the HOF ballot. Who is player #2?

    No.

This player was a five-time all-star, received MVP votes four times, and had eight seasons of more than 20 saves, with a high of 43 and five seasons with more than 30 saves.

Since it's been more than 24 hours:

Jose Lima has the NL record with 48 home runs allowed in 2000 for the Astors.

AL career leader, as correctly answered, is Frank Tanana with 422. The NL career leader is Warren Spahn with with 434.
