I am not sure if I understand that post. Me?

I didn't take a wrecking ball to the economy.

To use an anology. ... A drug dealer was feeding people heroin for a very long time. Everyone felt great. I was one of the relatively few people you probably know pointing out the reality during the time. A bunch of junkies were telling me I was wrong. Everything was great, and everyone was feeling so damned good. Of course that feel good was a farce. People's reality was being distorted by some drugs that were masking things.

The whole time, it was taking more and more smack to keep people high. And the drug dealer happily kept supplying it. And I was saying. ... this feels good for a short time period, but you are going to create crippling long-term effects.

Now the answer was. ... to force people to detox. But that isn't easy. So instead, we got the "easier" choice. ... more and more smack. It kept taking more and more to get the same high.

The virus had the equivalent of creating a spate of overdoses all at once. Whether that virus came along to make it happen or it was just time that brought the inevitable, at some point all of that smack was going to prove toxic.

That is where we are at. The answer they are giving? Way more heroin. ... get everyone high and happy again. Except now it is taking mountains of smack to get the same high (IF it doesn't cause a final mass OD; it is yet to be seen how this plays out). And it's not that simple, because now we have saddled ourselves with a lot of strung out junkies -- people that need drugs to survive.

The "wrecking ball to the economy" could have been avoided. What they are doing now may feel good for a day or a week or a few months, but they are putting in place a much bigger wrecking ball for that short-term relief, and the price is that they are guaranteeing a much bigger wrecking ball devastates people's lives later on. Whether that is next week or next month or a year from now is beside the point. The facade of short-term relief (while people suffer anyhow, because of what they did over a decade) is not nearly worth the magnitude greater economic devastation they are causing in the long term.

To use the other analogy, we are now in this cycle where the arsonist sets the fire and then rides in on the fire truck promising to put it out.

I don't disagree with you but, unfortunately, this country's voters are still a bunch of goobers, hayseeds and morons. Hell, remember the woman at the Iowa caucuses who learned on LIVE TV that Buttigieg is gay? Wasn't that fun? As I said a few months back. You can't yank this country hard left after the hard right we've just had. It needs to be a nudge, and I think a lot of people just want to get back to "normal," and normal for them is a president who doesn't sit around watching TV and shitposting on twitter all day. Normal is a guy who doesn't risk alienating allies (which we're finding out in this that we actually need. Imagine that) while sucking off dictators. Normal means going days upon days without having to give a shit and stress in great detail about what the president is doing.

Biden's flawed as shit. Wasn't my first choice at all. I'm tired of these old fucks that screwed this place up in the first place. But he can at least play the role of someone who cares about the people in this country. Trump has had four years and, just as we suspected, has shown its all about him.

Trump was elected largely because of the “anybody but Hillary” sentiment.

If Biden is elected as a consequence of an “anybody but Trump” wave, it won’t be the most thoroughly thought-out election process, but it won’t be the most stupid.

That benchmark is owned by the 2016 election and probably will be for a very long time.

No one took a wrecking ball to the economy. A virus did. The precautions being taken will insure that consumers survive to utilize the businesses if and when we survive this pandemic. Unemployment would be zero if only the poor and stupid got the virus.
The only way to insure the poor and stupid got the virus was to quarantine. The stupid and poor Christians going to church and the stupid and poor urban dwellers who disregard the quarantine should die off in the next 3 months. (I don’t know if you’ve seen the videos of BALTIMORE, DC, Chicago where thousands of people disregard the quarantine for block parties, and ATV races in the middle of city streets. Murder rate is unabated in urban areas too) That would leave the country smarter as a whole, less fearful of supernatural and superstitious cults and with less poor people dependent on welfare and social services. If we can keep the virus contained to the bottom of the liberal and conservative populations we can come out of this with a vibrant economy. /marginal blue font

Great ad. The only way it matters is to get it in Fox and the networks.
Running that on CNN or MSNBC or online only is meaningless.

The Fed actions this morning are its effort to duplicate the Republican (more money to small business) and Democratic (more money for state and municipal governments) proposals for the next round of disaster relief. The board likely noted there's both little agreement between the parties and that in any event Congress isn't back in session until the 20th. I'm pretty sure that a body full of bankers wasn't really thrilled to do it, but they felt forced to.

You can still conduct many businesses and do it in a safe(r) way. Many "essential" businesses still have tons of protections in place. Why can't "non-essential" businesses operate with tons of protections in place?

This is where my sister-in-law works. Still works . . . as it has somehow been classified as an "essential" service.

My wife's store is allowed to remain open because of a postal loophole. Nevertheless, the building is closed to customers, and the only orders processed are online with curb service. Why isn't Hobby Lobby allowed to do that?

This whole "X is essential but Y is not" nonsense is basically just throwing peoples' lives at the spin of a roulette wheel.

You work at X craft store? Good for you; you still have an income! You work at Y craft store? Sucks to be you!

They are buying junk bond ETFs! This makes Bernie Sanders' brand of socialism sound quaint. ... and the average person doesn't realize just how fucking absurd it is.

I feel bad for anyone trying to manage a pension fund that guaranteed a retirement to a group of people. Fuck those people who worked their whole lives and tried to be responsible, live debt free, etc. Their retirements are being sacrificed to prop up companies that would have been bankrupt years ago and never would have gotten so deep in debt in the first place, except for those numbnuts. And fuck anyone who was stupid enough to save in dollars -- the real value of your savings is plummeting by the day thanks to our monetary mandarins.

This is last-gasp desperation. ... When it fails, they will outright announce that they are going to buy equity ETFs, a la Japan. But good luck at this point to anyone who thinks they can front run them, the way people did for the last decade. They are rendering themselves powerless. The idea that they would ever need to act so desperately -- buying fucking junk bonds -- to keep a leverage bubble propped up, would have been unthinkable to most people even just a few years ago. It's stunning.

NONE of the types of stories you are talking about are open here in California. I’m sorry that you chose to live in a state that puts lesser value on human lives.
