That was always my fear when I watched the Australian Open late at night, her moaning would wake the neighbors.

Who was better, Seles' grunting or Sharapova's moaning?

No one -- NO ONE -- had better legs than Steffi.

Unanimous entry into the Hall of PED Cheaters, next to Capriati and Williams.

Williams? I know she's built like a brick shithouse, but I'm unaware that she's ever failed a drug test. And she's gotten tested a lot.

Hard to fail one when you keep getting Therapeutic Use Exemptions.

Interesting. What therapeutic use exemption would she get at her age?

Hard to know currently, since this stuff is supposed to be confidential. But thanks to some dandy Russian hacking, we know . . .

She got five TUEs in 2014 and 2015 for corticosteroids prednisone and prednisolone, and she got another TUE for oxycodone. Three other TUEs were also given for similar substances in 2010, when she was and off the tour for an extended stretch because of injury complications.

And many of these TUEs were given RETROACTIVELY, which should never happen other than an emergency.

Sharapova obviously would have requested (and likely been denied) a TUE in January 2016 had she known Meldonium had just been added to the banned list. She'd been taking it legally for a decade. But she didn't check, and neither did her advisers, so there you have it.

WADA is basically the NATO of sports: Its laboratory experts come from Hong Kong, Denmark, Brazil, Australia, Germany, Finland, France, Sweden, United Kingdom and Belgium. Not a single Eastern European country represented. Meldonium is an OVER-THE-COUNTER substance developed in Latvia and primarily distributed to Eastern European countries. So of course it was targeted by WADA.
