Wearing Leafs pants and a Marlies helmet, even.

Hey, the Wings could pick the emergency goalie over Jimmy Howard

Feels like a season saver for the Caps. Hard-working win with a couple of greasy goals in the third. Totally needed.

Maybe it’s fake news but heard other NHL teams are reaching out to Carolina and offering goaltending help, not on a trade basis but just... because. Hockey is special.

Stan Bowman is apparently not on board. The asking price for Robin Lehner, according to Pierre LeBrun, is kinda high.

A friend who has hockey contacts, he played junior in W Canada, told me at least 2 teams were offering AHL keepers to Canes organization, as a gesture, until they got their situation stabilized. Haven’t seen anything in print.

Red Wings finally trade Mike Green, to the Oilers for a fourth-round pick
Plus, I’m looking forward to Ovi and Kovy now that Ilya Kovalchuk is in DC

Nothing on the Bruins trade for Ondrej Kase?!Bruins gave up a prospect and a first round draft pick and dumped Backes's contract.

Okay - I guess I get the emergency goalie rule - but why not suit up a coach? Or have an equipment guy or someone on staff with goaltending experience? Seems really odd - like grabbing someone from the stands to pitch in a blowout or kick in a football game.

They used to do that. There was a game in 2015 when both Roberto Luongo and Al Montoya went down for Florida, and there was no emergency goalie, so they sent Rob Tallas down to find some gear and get ready to play. He was their goalie coach and in his 40s and hadn't played an NHL game in 15 years. Montoya came back out and played and Tallas didn't have to come into the game.

After that, the league came up with the emergency goalie thing, to at least prevent the delay in the game those scrambles were causing. So now, the home team always has someone in the building who will suit up for either team in an emergency. When one goalie goes down, they get the emergency goalie downstairs to start getting some gear on, so he can get ready to go if the other guy goes down. Most of them are guys who played junior hockey or college hockey or minor league hockey and are still active in competitive rec leagues.

It's not exactly that. The guy is usually associated with the team and practices daily. If the regular is given a break in practice, the EBUG steps in. If guys want to do extra shooting before or after practice, the EBUG is there for that.
