In the last presidential election, their candidate lost to the most polarizing, unqualified candidate in modern American politics. Democrats still blame the loss on Sanders and his faction of independent voters for not entirely bailing them out at the polls.

No, they weren’t doing just fine by themselves.

They may do better without Sanders this time around, now that the country has endured four years of Trump. But whomever the DNC nominates will need to bring in those independent voters who are disenchanted with the political establishment and status quo politics, and Sanders may be able to do that better than Biden.
