    The River, 1980
    Nebraska, 1982
    Born in the USA, 1984
    Tunnel of Love, 1987

That's half of Bruce's core run. There are a lot of names in this thread who never made a record that can touch The River or Born in the USA.

Bruce has songs of absolute brilliance in the 1970s.

Tom Petty was easily better in the 80s. Bruce totally lost his speed ball.

Twirling Time and Batman like this.

    "Then I got Mary pregnant
and man, that was all she wrote.
    And for my nineteenth birthday
I got a union card and a wedding coat.

We went down to the courthouse
and the judge put it all to rest.
No wedding smiles, no walks down the aisle,
    no flowers, no wedding dress."

    80s Bruce:
    The River
    Nebraska
    Born in the USA
    Tunnel of Love

    80s Petty:
    Hard Promises
    Long After Dark
    Southern Accents
Let Me Up (I've Had Enough)

Much as I like Tom Petty, this one is Bruce in a first-round knockout. It's not even close.
